GEAR UP middle school students and their families spent a day at The Museum of Flight, learning about flight with the help of fun flying models – from the earliest flying creatures to today’s powerful rockets. Sixteen middle school students and their family members from Sunnyside, Goldendale, Royal, Burlington-Edison and Mt. Vernon visited the Museum of Flight in Seattle on August 17th, 2012.
Families peered inside the world of a pilot in their Aviation Learning Center. They learned how airplanes fly, climbed inside a real Cirrus SR20 airplane, then planned and piloted a flight of their own in the Museum of Flight simulators.
This trip was followed by a visitation to the University of Washington campus to see first-hand, where students live, study and often work to help finance their education. This event was sponsored by the University of Washington College Knowledge Program (CACG) at no cost to the families.
